Aeronautical Data Quality Regulation As part of its Single European Sky initiative, the EC is taking action to improve the quality of aeronautical data and information. Such action is needed for a number of reasons, not least to support new navigation techniques, such as Precision Area Navigation in terminal airspace. The most significant action taken by the EC in this regard has been the development of a regulation specifically focused on the quality of aeronautical data and information. This regulation takes the form of an Implementing Rule which was adopted by the EC on 26th January 2010, as EC regulation 73/2010, and which enters into force on the 16th February 2010. The regulation lays down a number of provisions which impact all those involved in the aeronautical data chain, from the point of data origination through to the point of distribution by a State’s Aeronautical Information Service (AIS) provider. This includes operators of aerodromes and heliports for which Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) or Special-Visual Flight Rules (SVFR) procedures are published in the national Aeronautical Information Publication. The first provisions within the regulation come into force in July 2013. These provisions will require all parties involved to undertake extensive assessment of their existing processes, and revise and develop new processes and tools in order to demonstrate compliance with the regulation. The work necessary to achieve compliance should not be underestimated. Our company has extensive experience in this field, having provided expert support to EUROCONTROL in the development of the regulation, and we would like to offer our services to help you ensure compliance. Mileridge Limited is an independent, UK-based company, specialising in the provision of high quality consultancy and software solutions for use within the Air Traffic Management (ATM) arena.
